British soldier and administrator (1861–1936) most famous for his role during World War I, in which he led the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in the conquest of Palestine and Syria in 1917 and 1918. ALS signed “Allenby,” one page both sides, 4 x 7.5, The Residency, Cairo letterhead, May 3, 1922. In part: “Very many thanks for the kind telegram of good wishes for my birthday…It was a great pleasure to me to receive it.” In very good condition, with even toning (heavier on the front of the page) and a horizontal fold. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
