Thomas Edison signed copy of Terry Ramsaye's ''A Million and One Nights: A History of the Motion Picture.'' Simon and Schuster: New York: 1926. Limited edition two volume set is signed on the dedication page by Thomas Edison with his famous umbrella signature beneath a printed statement that reads: ''This is, I believe, the first endeavor to set down the whole and true story of the motion picture. I have been in contact with the author's researches through his years of preparation and I am aware of an unrelenting effort at exact fact. A high degree of detailed accuracy has been attained.'' Signed: ''Thos A. Edison.'' The author Ramsaye signs and inscribes on the fly leaf: ''To the Barretts: -- Wilton and Frances / friends of mine and the movies / Jerry Ramsaye / New York / February 17, 1927''. He also signs the verso of the dedication page to verify that this copy is numbered 130 of 327. The set, rebound in brown boards with gold lettering, runs 868pp. and is illustrated with remarkable black and white photos of the early film industry. The two volumes with gilt top edges and untrimmed fore and tail edges have overall toning, else very good condition.
