Edgefield County SC Hand-made Pine Wardrobe, ca. early 19th C, Entire piece was hand-made in Edgefield County, SC at the family farmhouse, molded cornice, paneled sides, two doors between two front panels, over long drawer with molded base. Constructed from hand-planed and chamfered boards, tongue and groove back, mortise and tendon doors, pegged, some original square nails intact. Oringinal bass hinges, hand-wrought iron hook in inside top of left door, block of wood added at top by cornice to keep doors closed and says Kraft-Phenix Cheese Corp. on back, all knobs have been replaced due to aging, brass locks are missing, escutcheon on drawer is filled, hole cut in back - original wood in place, interior divider boards are missing. Provenance: Edgefield County, SC Farmhouse Estate. Height 82", Width 56", Depth 23". Condition: parts of wood missing, old repairs, wear commiserate with age, overall great example of American Country Furniture,joinery and woodcrafting techniques used in the 19th century.
