1840-50, alkaline glaze with slip decoration. Stamped: Chandler Maker over a 2 stem flower, 5 in wreath on back, double handled. 2 firing pops on slip - otherwise in good condition. Thomas Chandler was born in Virginia in 1810 and by 1840 records indicated that he was in South Carolina and turning in several of the Edgefield factories. In 1850 he co-owned the Trap-Chandler factory. He died in 1854. Potters such as Chandler and his works are still shaping the very idea of utilitarian pottery as an art form. 19h x 13w Condition:
