Edgar Rice Burroughs The Son of Tarzan Inscribed & Signed First Edition Presentation Copy. (Chicago: A.C. McClurg & Co., 1917), first edition, first state, 394 pages, green cloth with gilt lettering on the spine and cover, 8vo (5" x 7.5"), no dust jacket, but housed in custom green half-leather slipcase, with gilt lettering and banded leather on the spine. Inscribed and signed "With best wishes to Alfred Green Esq. from the author of 'The Lad and the Lion' Edgar Rice Burroughs Los Angeles March 15 1917" on the front free endpaper. Green directed the silver screen adaptation of the Burroughs tale, "The Lad and the Lion" in 1917, a Tarzan-esque boy and the beast tale. The Son of Tarzan is the genesis of Korak the Killer, the ape name and jungle persona assumed by Tarzan's son Jack Clayton. Illustrated throughout by J. Allen St. John. This copy is good, with some edge and spine wear, and separation beginning at the hinges. Rare occasion to own a Burroughs presentation copy.
