Hungarian-born violinist (1828–1898) who toured worldwide and earned a reputation as one of the top virtuosi of his day. Original 4 x 6.5 cabinet photo of Remenyi with his violin by H. Rocher of Chicago, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ink, “To Mrs. W. S. B. Mathews, Edward Remenyi, Chicago, 1879, 8th May.” Moderate dings and wear to corner tips, light silvering and surface spotting to image, and light scattered soiling to reverse, otherwise fine condition.
