This is an original exceptionally rare Hillsboro, Montana made Eddy Hulbert (1898-1960) sterling silver ranger buckle set and tooled leather belt. Edmund Cummings Hulbert (Eddie or Eddy for short) was trained in horseshoeing and blacksmithing at Cedarvale Dude Ranch at Hillsboro, Montana at an early age. He was self-taught in the art of making bits and spurs and by the mid-1920’s his talent was recognized by some of the major saddleries such as Hamley, Fred Miller and Otto Ernst (catalog advertising his bits and spurs). This piece shows an excellent sterling silver buckle set on a wonderful tooled leather belt from Eddy Hulbert. The piece is from the Captain Clark Burrel estate in Lovell, Wyoming and comes with the Ritter General Agency Denver, Colorado tag. Exceptionally rare original early set. These both appear to be in good condition. The belt shows a floral and paisley design. The piece measures 34.25”L. Buckle marked, “STERLING”.
