World War I-dated ALS signed “Lt. Eddie Rickenbacker,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.75 x 7.75, August 27, 1918. Letter to Mrs. Barton, in part: “Your most encouraging Soldier’s day letter arrived some time ago, owning to my familiarity with a Paris Hospital I was prevented from answering…However now I am rapidly regaining and hope in a few weeks to be fit and ready for the front as before….My what I would give for one little glimpse of dear old California, but why wish when there’s a war on. Conditions over here are very good and the future bright as anyone may expect. All us hope it grows brighter as time rolls on.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a modern photo of the fighter ace.
