TLS, second page of a two-page letter, 7.25 x 10.5, September 8, 1943. Written in the midst of World War II as president and general manager of Eastern Airlines. In part: “The Russian ideology and American ideology have always been at conflict, yet both people have always had a sympathetic interest in the welfare of each other because they recognize the power of both. There is no reason why our foreign policy and people cannot understand them and work with them today and tomorrow as we have in the past century, regardless of our ideology, as long as we do not attempt to impose them on each other.” In fine condition, with upper left corner crease, bends, and a staple hole to the top left corner.
