A stellar piece of NASA collector history. This is an official NASA photo of American astronaut Edward H. White during his famous Gemini Mission Spacewalk (EVA) in 1965. Ed White's ability to maneuver, as well as photo-document this extravagant American space-feat, is made possible by Harold I. Johnson's invention of the Hand-Held Self Maneuvering Unit (HHSMU), seen held by astronaut Ed White in the photo. White and his two crewmates were the first American casualties of the Space Race after a fire erupted in the Apollo command module during a training exercise in 1967. Ed White inscribes "To Hal, Thanks For The Great Manuver-Ing Unit-, Edward H. White." The photo measures 8" x 10". There is some paper transfer to the edging from storage, which appears mostly topical and possibly restorable. Provenance: From the estate of NASA engineer Harold I. Johnson.
