Captain of a New Hampshire militia unit during the Revolutionary War and the father of Daniel Webster. Interestingly, on the night that George Washington learned that Benedict Arnold was a traitor, he personally asked Captain Webster to guard his tent. DS, signed “Ebenezer Webster,” one page, 6.25 x 3, March 9, 1781. As selectman of Salisbury, New Hampshire, receipt to a gentleman for “one Hund. continental Dollars for his helping to repair the Meeting House.” Affixed to a slightly larger sheet. In very good condition, with even toning, missing lower left corner, trimmed edges, and small ink stains touching text.
