Color eau forte engraving entitled "Charlatans et animaux savants" (Quacks and Performing Animals). It depicts a genre scene of a travelling show of musicians, midgets and performing animals and is designed by Dessene. Alexandre Joseph Dessene, (1785-1827) was a French School artist known for his genre scenes and illustration of French classics. His work is part of the collection of the San Francisco Museums of Art. Made after the painting by the same name by Karl Le Jardin (1621-1678), a 17th Century Dutch printmaker and painter.

The text on the page reads as follows:Peint par Jardin (Carle du). Dessine par Desenne. Grave a l' Eau-Forte par Chataignier, termine par Dupreel. Charlatans et animaux savans. Undated but according to the listings of prints and photographs of the journal La Bibliographie de La France this work was first authorized for distribution in France in 1853.
