This is an exceptional English made Pipe Tomahawk dating to circa 1820-1840. The pipe tomahawk was used by the Eastern Woodlands and Great Lakes tribes in the early 19th century. The weapon shows a hand forged head with a step down circular ring around the top of the bowl, a modest neck, forged chevrons, forged molding, and a faint broad arrow stamped on the side with a faint, “BO” on the reverse. The piece shows a poured lead endcap at the top. The hardwood haft has extensive, artful hot file branding and a pierced hole that likely held beads, feathers, or a wrist thong at one time. The haft has a deep shiny patina. The tomahawk has a total length of 19” with the head being 7”x2.75”. This is one of the finest pipe tomahawks offered in this sale.
