This is a pipe stem and bowl both carved from catlinite pipestone with trade brass rings and rare carved wood mouth piece. This is from the Eastern Sioux Native American Indians collected at the deaccession sale from the Eastern Sioux Museum in Ontario, Canada. The piece is from the second to fourth quarter of the 19th century. The pipe has glass trade seed beadwork and ocher dyed feathers that were believed to be added later circa 1930-1950's and are not original to the piece. Very rare original 19th century full catlinite stem and bowl. This comes on a custom solid wood stand. Stand is 3.5"x25.5"x4". Pipe is 25.75" overall. Bowl is 6 5/8"x3 5/8" with a 1/2" opening. This is a legal agreement between you, the user or buyer, and North American Auction Company. You must be at least 18 years old to bid. North American Auction Company. All purchases must be removed from the auction site without damaging any property and within the time announced or posted. All sales are made on an AS IS - WHERE IS WITH ALL FAULTS basis. All buyers are urged to physically inspect the item during the inspection period. No bids can be withdrawn after the auction for any reason. BUYER agrees that these terms as well as all other terms set forth below, can be amended or revised only in writing, signed by the auctioneer. In the event of legal proceedings arising from this contract or from the auction in connection therewith, buyer consents to being subject to the personal jurisdiction of the courts of the State of Montana. Buyer also agrees that venue shall be in Gallatin County, Montana and that the laws of the State of Montana shall govern this Agreement and the parties' transaction hereunder. The BUYER expressly agrees to indemnify and save the Auction Co., Seller and their assigns harmless from and against all claims, losses, expenses, damage or liability, (including, but not limited to, attorney's fees), directly or indirectly caused by or resulting from Buyer's negligent acts or omissions or breach of this agreement, except for damages caused by or resulting from the Auction Co.'s sole negligence. All items must be paid for prior to removal; if storage arrangements are not made in advance of bidding on items. Storage will start March 22th 2015 and will be charged $10 per day per item. If there is a dispute on the authenticity of an item, the only professional opinion that will be considered is from a curator of a well-known museum.
