Eastern European wheel lock Tsinke style rifle, fully and finely inlaid with engraved bone and pearl inlays, circa about 1620-1670. The rifle measures 46" overall with 35-1/2" medium to light weight octagon barrel ofapproximately .36 cal., measuring 3/4" across the flats of the muzzle. The intricate inlays show mythical beasts, angels playing instruments, Czech style lion, birds, stag, tight geometrics and florals, and we woulddescribe the inlay as extensive and more deluxe than normally found. The lock, breech and barrel show considerable engraving with a trace of gold gilt, now drifting to patina. The original rear sight and front sight are retained, the lock is complete, the metal surfaces show a good patina, minor erosion and normal aging. The stock has had some excellent restoration, particularly to replacement of pearl inlay which is a museumquality repair. These early European arms are seldom seen on the auction market.
