East Tenn Early Rocking Chair Smoky
In 1790, a family purchased a track of land at the base of the Smoky Mountains in Sevier County, Tennessee. They built a log cabin and it has remained in the family until early 2008. This year, a developer purchased the property, and many of the antiques are being offered for the first time. Early 19th Century, probably 1830-50, mixed woods, original finish that is so worn its just smooth as silk on the finials and arms. The split bottom seat is at least old if not original and there does not appear to be any repairs. 3 Shaped slats in the back, turned front leg/supports for the arm and truly a variety of woods. 37" tall to the top of the back shaped finial, 20" wide from arm to arm, 30" deep from the front of the rocker to the back. Provenance: Byrd or Shrader Family of Sevier County, Tenn.
