East Tenn Cherry Blanket Chest
In 1790, a family purchased a track of land at the base of the Smoky Mountains in Sevier County, Tennessee. They built a log cabin and it has remained in the family until early 2008. This year, a developer purchased the property. Many of the antiques are being offered for the first time. Along the way, probably 1840-50, someone in either the Byrd or Shrader family of Sevier County, Tennessee made one of the prettiest Cherry blanket chests you ever saw. Post and panel construction, pegged, most of the trim remains in the front panels but note, a few pieces are missing. The finish is likely to be the original. An unusual feature on the inside of the 4 corner posts is a V carved down from the inside back corner. The hinges are original as is the lock. Pine secondary wood for the back and is a large single board with beveled sides. Dimensions, 37 1/2" long, 16 1/4" deep by 22" tall.
