East Tenn Airplane Folky Quilt Top
Probably from the 1940s or 50s, someone in The Smoky Mountains of Sevier County, Tennessee saw a plane and decided to make a quilt for their child. This would have been either in the Byrd or Shrader family and the family lived in a mountain cove where the family had been since the 1790s in a log cabin. The quilt was never finished or put together. The yellow square has a red pieced airplane with extended wings in the center. The look is simply a stunning folk art piece. The 18 squares each measure some 12" square and could be easily put together for a childs quilt. All cotton and only minor fading to some of the red colors but still certainly useable.
