Copper Pattern, for gold and silver coinage, obv. lion and palm tree, rev. garter on star, with Bombay on riband and 1828 in centre, plain edge (Prid 336, KM Pn 18). NGC graded MS62 BN, Very Rare. Designed by Robert Gordon, 2nd Battalion Bombay Artillery, (transferred to the Mint for duty as a die sinker), this design was prepared at the Bombay mint but was not approved for circulation. It is very suggestive that the star and garter is an adaptation of some military badge or insignia of the Bombay Artillery.
