Silver Rupee, 11.52g, with undeciphered Persian inscription on Obverse and Reverse, it is assumed by some, that it is in the name of —the King of England Charles II, (See P. P. Kulkarni article in ”A Journey from Bombaim to Mumbai” a Shukla Day Coin Fair Souvenir). Very Fine+, Extremely Rare. According to the article in “A Journey from Bombaim to Mumbai” the above coin is believed to have been struck at Mumbai during the reign of Charles II. However, Paul Stevens demonstrated this was not the case. Pridmore says that the Surat Council’s comment upon the inscription ’Charles the second, King of England’ perhaps indicates that while the Obverse was the normal Anglina type, the Reverse was inscribed in Persian with that above inscription. The inscription on both sides of the coin is in all likelihood a Persian rendering of a Western language inscription.
