Early two-piece delicately carved lesser yellowle
Early two-piece delicately carved lesser yellowlegs ca 1890-1900, from the rig of President Grover Cleveland who kept a home in Monument Brach on Cape Cod known as "Gray Gables". All three lesser yellowlegs in the photo were gifted to the consignor by Cleveland's hunting guide as he was once her next door neighbor back in the mid to early 1900's. In fine OP with carved raised center wing tip. Neck join is visible on all three. Struck by a few shot. Bill has been professionally replaced by Steven Weaver. This decoy and the two others pictured have the typical carved raised center wing tips found on decoys from Chincoteague, VA. That were made by Ira Hudson, Umbrella Watson, or another accomplished maker from that area. (decoy)
