Early flintlock Indian trade gun with serpent brass side plate, .60 cal., 42” barrel, full wood stock. This desirable trade flintlock is in untouched condition showing a heavy dark patina on the barrel with British proof marks at the breech and some scattered pitting and light rust around the firing area, light engraving of feathers on the lock plate, iron trigger guard, brass butt plate and two brass ramrod ferrules housing an old wood ramrod in the stock’s ramrod channel; the action is good, the bore dark and the wood stock is dry at the butt plate and at the top tang with an old loss on the right top side that also shows some old loss, likely from considerable firing. The balance of the stock is good with a heavy patina, an “X” and a “W” carved into the left side of the butt stock and some scattered nicks and scratches. The serpent side plate is finely accomplished and worn from years of carry. A great Indian trade rifle that is in “as found” condition. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
