Early and high quality spear point Bowie knife, marked Jonathan Crookes on early style bolster, German silver engraved hilt with finger defenses and horn gripscales, showing German silver pins and plaques and fullyetched blade. The knife measures 14-5/8" overall, 9-7/8" blade with 3 Spanish style notches at the rear. The blade shows a patina, some sharpening at the edges and a full floral etching from bolster to tip islightly visible on both sides. The knife shows use and sharpening, small reduction to the point; the gripscales are good with one crack on each side. The German silver mounts show a deep patina and matching engraving to the etching on the blade. Beneath the bolster a makers mark of a heart and pistol are shown. The blade is of thick stock and good quality, and from the style we date it late 1830s to 1840s. Est.: $6,000-$12,000
