Mounted photograph of an early x-ray. The image is reversed, but text at bottom reads "Brownson House Orthopedic Dispensary X-Ray Laboratory AH Honey--Radiographer." 12 x 10" The first X-ray was taken by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895, when he discovered a new type of invisible radiation that could pass through soft tissue but not bone. He captured the image of his wife's hand on photographic film, revealing her bones and wedding ring, which marked the beginning of modern medical imaging.
