This is an example of an early World War II production ac code P38 pistol with the stacked "ac/40" marking rolled on the the left side of the slide. This specific pistol is a standard issue that was manufactured from November to December 1940, with approximately 10,000 made in total. Although this seems to be a high production number they are actually a very rare early German Army contract pistol that saw extremely high attrition rates based on the number of years of actual wartime use. The pistol has "eagle/359" proofs stamped on most of the small parts. Double "eagle/359" proofs and a firing proof are stamped on the right side of the slide. The bore dimension is stamped on the left side of the barrel lug. The matching letter "a" block serial number is stamped on the slide, frame and barrel lug. The insides of the ribbed grips have the maker's marking. The blue "P.38" marked magazine has an "eagle/359" proof on the spine.
