Early World War II K98 Rifle with Carl Zeiss Scope

This is an early WWII K98 Mauser type bolt action rifle that has been converted/assembled into a double claw type sniper rifle. The top of the receiver is marked with a partial Eagle/26 Waffenamt with the front scope base in the middle and "42" below the base. The rifle has been fitted with a set of commercial double claw scope bases with the front base dovetailed into the receiver with the rear base screwed onto the rear receiver ring. The rifle is fitted with a late production Zeiss Sniper type scope. The scope has been fitted with a set of semi-circle commercial rings, with the locking latch on the rear base. The rear of the scope tube is marked "CARL ZEISS/JENA" over "Zielvier/Nr.54127" and it is fitted with the standard German three-post reticle and comes with a reproduction rubber eyecup. The receiver ring is partially covered with the front scope base with the left side of the receiver and barrel, both having been stamped with the Nazi Eagle/firing proof. The top, rear section of the barrel is also stamped with "cyw" which is the WWII manufacturers code for the barrel steel. The receiver side wall is marked "Mod 98". It has the standard early milled barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate and it has been fitted with a laminated stock and handguard with a flat buttplate. The rifle is complete with a sheet metal front sight cover and cleaning rod.

Fine as refinished/assembled with 85% of the blue finish overall with even honest blue wear on the exposed metal surfaces. The scope has 95% of the blue finish with clear sharp markings and nice clear optics. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition with a nice original finish on both components with no visible proofs. It has matching numbers on the various parts with the complete trigger guard/floor plate and barrel band having been restamped. A very nice representative example of a WWII German sniper rifle
