Early World War I Magazine Pictures 1914
Twenty-two (22) World War I magazines that depict the early years of the first World
War in great detail. The magazines are housed in a large binder titled “The New York
Times Mid-Week Pictorial War Extra” and feature ten (10) New York Times war editions
that run from October 1, 1914 to May 13, 1915 and twelve (12) war editions from the
Boston Herald Weekly that run from November 10, 1914 to March 16, 1915. The Boston
Herald Weekly War Pictorials include the very first issue of the magazine, and there are
breathtaking photos of the Battle of the Marne, the Lusitania (a ship that was sunk off
the coast of Ireland by a German submarine), British machine gunners, the Argonne
Forest, Zouves, Krupp guns, and other components of the first World War. Each edition
is well illustrated and has history to accompany the photos. These editions are hard to
find, especially in one collection like this. Gilt-decorated cover with light wear, and there
are three bonus newspapers from the Boston Sunday Herald in the back (1915).
