This lot includes an exceptional Early Wolf Robe Serigraph Portrait. Serigraphy, a medium that's been around for over one hundred years. Serigraphy is a fancy term for silkscreen printing. The word was coined early in the last century to distinguish the artistic use of the medium from its more common commercial purpose. Silkscreening, as we know it, however, dates only to the early years of the 20th century. This piece shows great detail of Wolf Robe or Ho'néhevotoomáhe (born between 1838 and 1841). Wolf Robe was a Southern Cheyenne chief and a holder of the Benjamin Harrison Peace Medal. During the late 1870s he was forced to leave the open plains and relocate his tribe on to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indian Reservation in Indian Territory. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. This excellent piece shows wonderful quality and detail. The frame measures 25 1/2" by 33 1/2". The artwork shows 12 1/4" by 16".
