The small inspector markings "P" and "A" are marked on the bottom of the barrel just ahead of the cylinder pin and the single letter "A" inspection mark is present on top of the backstrap and trigger guard (below the serial number). Very good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with some minor pitting on the barrel, ejector housing, top of the hammer and front portion of the cylinder. The period fitted front rifle style sight has some marks on top of barrel where the sight blade was driven on. The grip is good with exception of chips on each toe, wear and chipping along the lower edges and minor dings and dents. The markings remain clear and crisp. The mechanics are excellent. Still, a solid early U.S. Ainsworth Cavalry Colt with a low serial number.
