Improved design of the original Model 3, Smith & Wesson's first top break, automatic ejection revolver produced from 1878 to 1912. Top of barrel rib is marked with the two line address and patent dates: "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D JAN 17 & 24. 65. JULY 14. 65. / AUG 24. 69. APR 20. 75 FEB 20. & DEC 18. 1877 REISSUE JULY 25. 1871." This model features blade front and somewhat scarce "combat target" notched rear sights. Six shot fluted cylinder with automatic ejector. Casehardened trigger guard, trigger and hammer, with remaining surfaces nickel. Matching serial number on the butt, cylinder, barrel and barrel latch. Fitted with checkered hard rubber S&W monogram embossed grips.
BBL: 6 1/2 inch solid rib
Stock:
Gauge: 32-44
Finish: nickel
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 197
Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 90% plus of the polished original bright nickel finish with some minor wear on the muzzle and some scattered minor flaking. The trigger guard and hammer show strong, faded original case colors in protected areas with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The grips are very fine, having faded to brown and showing some very minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings remain sharp. There is some slight ply in the cylinder, otherwise the action is excellent.
