Paid by the said Trustees … he doth hereby acknowledge, hath given …A certain piece of land situate lying and being in sd. South Kingstown Containing Eight Acres ….” The document is Signed, “Thomas Hopkins, his mark,” by STEPHEN HOPKINS (1707-1785) American political leader from Rhode Island and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Hopkins, a relative of Stephen Hopkins, has signed with his mark “T”.
