Early Remington Model 8 semi-automatic rifle in .35 Remington caliber, serial number 16872. The caliber marking is engraved on the breech end of the barrel rather than stamped in the normal position. The rifle retains 20% to 40% original blue drifting to brown with some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. There is a couple of dents in the barrel sleeve but otherwise metal surfaces are good to very good overall. The rifle is mounted with an original to the period marble sights in their correct positions. The stock is nicely checkered with a pistol grip of a somewhat better than standard grade and remains in good condition with some small losses, minor dings, mars, scratches and one small crack in the fore end where it meets the frame. The butt plate has been chipped badly and there is a loss in the area beneath the screw. The action is good and the bore is fair and may clean as it shows a great deal of use. Est.: $300-$600
