Dated 1778, the French government owed residents of Quebec for Treasury notes and card money, etc. This is some sort of a contractual document whereby Jean-Girardet de Marigny is acting as an agent for Isaac Clifford. It is for 250 livres discounted from 450 livres. de Marigny was a wealthy merchant and banker from Paris.

Terms and Conditions
Credit and Deposits: All bidders must be approved. Those who do not have an established relationship with Geoffrey Bell Auctions must provide an approved reference or a credit guarantee prior to the sale.
Auction Conduct: All our starting bids will be opened at approximately 10% above the second highest mail or computer bid. If there are no mail bids, auctioneer will start the bids at the reserve price or half of the estimate, advances are at the discretion of the auctioneer. In the event there are identical bids, the earliest received bid will take priority. We reserve the right to withdraw any lot prior to the sale. Lots are sold to the highest bidder at an average rate of 150-200 lots per hour.
Bidding Procedures: Bids may be made in person, fax 506-634-1026, email bids@gbellauctions.com or by mail. Telephone bids are accepted through an approved agent provided by Geoffrey Bell Auctions at 506-634-1025. ALL Mail, fax and email bids must arrive to our office no later than July 22nd, 2009 at 12 noon EST. Also, we are on iCollector.com and are accepting proxy bids one hour before each session, our iCollector ID is gbellauctions and Geoffrey Bell Auctions reserve the right to refuse bids deemed not in good faith.
Grading Standards and Description: The Cataloguers have taken every reasonable measure to ensure that all the lots are as described. Geoffrey Bell Auctions have Don Olmstead and George Murray as our grading consultants. Many of the lots are third party graded by PCGS, PMG, ICCS, CCCS and NGC - We feel these are the most recognized grading companies in the industry.
Return Policies: Returns will be accepted by absentee bidders for lots that have been misattributed or incorrectly catalogued. We guarantee that all items are genuine and we will refund anything that has been misrepresented by the cataloguers. Certified grading concerns are to be dealt with through the certified grading company, not Geoffrey Bell Auctions. All floor sales are final, including those who choose to use our agent.
Lot pick-up: July 25th & 26th on the Extravaganza bourse floor (Look for the sign at the back of the room) from 10am-4pm. All lots not picked up after the show will be shipped at the bidders expense.

No taxes added if shipped out of country. US Funds accepted at 1% over the posted rate on xe.com on the day of the auction. All accounts not paid within 30 days will result in an interest charge of 1 1/2% per month calculated from July 24th, 2009. Shipping Insurance will be added to all items shipped. If the buyer chooses to decline this option lots will be sent at the buyer's risk.
