Early Production Winchester Model 53 Takedown Lever Action Rifle
Winchester produced only about 25,000 Model 53s from 1924 to 1932. This model was in fact a slightly more modern version of the Model 1892. It was available in only one style, the Sporting Rifle with a 22 inch tapered barrel. This rifle was manufactured in 1925, the second year of production and features a Lyman blade front and adjustable sporting rear sights, half magazine, smooth forearm with a steel end cap and straight grip stock with a steel serrated flat buttplate. The barrel is marked with the two line address on the right rear, model, trademark, caliber designation and "NICKEL STEEL" on the left side. and standard three line trade mark marking on the upper tang. The Winchester oval proof is marked on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel and magazine retain 98% original blue finish with some slight muzzle wear. The takedown ring retains 30% original finish with the balance having a smooth brownish patina. The receiver retains 75% original finish with scattered flaking with smooth brown patina on the exposed areas. The lever shows scattered flaking with 90% original finish remaining and smooth brown patina. The wood is very finr with several minor scratches and a few minor dings and dents. The action is excellent.
