Early Production Two Digit Serial Number Sharps Model 1A Four Barrel Pepperbox Pistol
Introduced in 1859, this pistol is the lowest serial number known, quite possibly made on the very first day of production. The frame is marked "C. SHARPS/ PATENT 1859" and "C. SHARP & Co / PHILADA. PA." around the screw, and the matching serial number is marked on the butt and bottom of the barrel assembly. Blue finished barrels with a brass pin front sight and silver plated brass frame with the straight standing breech, groove rear sight, straight line grip juncture and barrel release on the underside. Checkered hammer with rotating pin, smooth spur trigger and deep relief floral pattern Gutta Percha grips. Notes from a previous owner suggest that this arm was part of the Remington estate and the Locke collection, though this is not confirmed. With a contemporary hardwood case and oiler.
