This is an early example of a Model 70 rifle in 300 H&H Magnum as manufactured in 1937 when the 300 H&H Magnum caliber was first introduced to the line of Winchester Model 70 rifles. It is also the Type 1 Target Rifle, a rare Model 70 configuration with a sporter stock. These rifles were depicted in most Winchester sales catalogs from 1937 to 1941 even though the majority of target rifles made during this time were the Type 2. The left side of the barrel has standard Winchester markings followed by "300 MAGNUM", the first style caliber designation stamp for the 300 H&H Magnum. The right side of the barrel has the two line Winchester address. The Winchester factory proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver (double stamped) at the breech. Hooded ramp front sight, adjustable sporting type rear sight with the area ahead of the sight tapped for scope mounting and receiver tapped for scope/sight mounting. Cloverleaf receiver tang, hinged floor plate and pre-war safety. The polished bolt is numbered to the gun. The sporting type straight comb pistol grip stock has checkering, sling swivels and a checkered steel buttplate.

Excellent. The rifle retains 97% original blue finish showing high edge wear and specking of brown on the floor plate with some minor scratches. Mechanically excellent.
