Early Production 1902 DWM Luger Carbine with Matching Walnut Shoulder Stock
This is an example of a very desirable DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine that is complete with a matching numbered shoulder stock. DWM produced these carbines as a lightweight rifle substitute and to compete with the early 1896 Broomhandle Mauser carbines. There were a total of 2500 of this model ever produced in two serial number blocks with this specific pistol being produced very early in the first block of which only 1100 total were made. The unique feature of these pistols is that they all have a 11 3/4 inch barrel, a small spring accelerator mechanism in the forearm that actually helps function the pistol during the cycling phase with the early features such the long frame, with the original flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock, and recessed/flat breech bolt. These were also fitted with the early style three position rear sight (adjustable from 100-300 meters) mounted on top of the barrel in front of the receiver and a bead front sight mounted on a ramp on top of the barrel. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the DWM logo for "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken". The full serial number (21700) is correctly marked on the frame extension, and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, inside the forend, grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, toggle assembly and the back side of both grip panels. The pistol is completely original and has a black horn buttplate, lower sling swivel with an original attaching iron that is numbered "700" on top. The magazine has an original nickel plated body with a correct wood base that is unmarked. These pistols all have a rust blued finish with a straw color on the various small parts.

Stock: walnut checkered
Gauge: 7.65 mm Luger Auto
Finish: blue/straw color
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 21700
Condition: Very fine overall with 85% of the faded original pre-war blued finish with wear and finish loss on the edges and high spots overall, the front grip strap, the underside of the barrel where it meets the forend and the front left side of the barrel and muzzle area. The grips are in fine condition overall with nice checkering showing a light even wear across the tops of the diamonds, with some light pressure dents on the right side with a larger heavier pressure dent on the left side above the grip screw. The stock is fine showing most of it's original pre-war varnish with some light scratches, handling marks on the right side with some light pressure dents on the left side. The stock lug has most of it's reblued finish with an extra non-factory screw present on top. A very nice early example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger Carbine.
