1911 This is a lot of two possible movie posters for the short William Selig production of Marie Corelli’s novel, “Thelma.” I say appear, because they were thought to be playbills, but I can find no evidence that Corelli’s popular 1887 novel was ever adapted for the stage, however, there were two film productions done based on the novel. The first was produced by Selig in 1911, the second produced in Britain by I.B. Davidson in 1918. There was a third film produced in 1922, directed by Chester Bennett. these colorful but fragile works of lobby art measure 41”x 28.5” and 28”x 21” respectively and have fold creases that need repair. They were printed by The National Printing Company of New York and St. Louis. Marie Corelli the author of the novel on which this production is based was quite popular back during the Victorian age with several members of the British Royal family and the Churchills owning collections of her work. On the other side, American humorist Samuel Clemens didn’t care for her. Lynn Langdon Collection - HKA#65296
