A decorative Indian dress saber, likely produced mid-20th century, modeled after European military sabers of the late 19th century. The slightly curved steel blade bears etched foliate designs and stylized script, together with a clear “MADE IN INDIA” stamp, confirming its export-oriented manufacture. The hilt features a three-bar steel guard with a black ribbed grip (possibly leather over wood or composite). The scabbard is covered in red velvet with gilt-thread trim, lending the piece a ceremonial appearance. Such swords were often produced in India between the 1930s–1960s for ceremonial, parade, and souvenir purposes, rather than combat. While stylistically echoing British or French sabers, the workmanship and “Made in India” export mark firmly place it in the category of 20th-century reproduction/dress swords. Condition: Blade with tarnish, surface pitting, and wear consistent with age. Scabbard velvet with fraying and fading; guard and grip show patination.
