Circa 1948 to 1955 ... Obviously influenced by a group of works produced by Los Castillo, which featured silver designs embellished with blue art glass cabochons, this early pair of earrings by Margot van Voorhies Carr for Margot de Taxco is nevertheless a marvel of artistry. Boasting a sumptuous Art Nouveau style, the earrings have been fashioned using superb scrollwork, beading, cutwork, and piercing in their fluid and flowing silver motif. While at the top of each earring, a cobalt blue glass cab, with extraordinary translucence and radiance, has been bezel set to create a dazzling, bejeweled centerpiece. Magnificent to wear, fabulous to display, these earrings are irresistible works of wearable art. Hallmarks: On one earring--MARGOT DE TAXCO, 5302; on the other earring--STERLING, MADE IN MEXICO {circle}; Eagle assay #16 {delineated}. The older Eagle stamp indicates that the pair was made between 1948 and 1955. Margot's silver pieces were numbered, starting at 5100 and ending at 5790, so the earrings are early pieces of hers. Dimensions: 13/16" x 3/4". Condition: Collector quality.
