Early Mandolin-Banjo Mother-of-Pearl Star
Early Mandolin-Banjo. Features Eight string adjustable bridge, open back, birdseye maple body, Mother of Pearl fret markers and star on peghead. Imprinted on the backside of the rawhide: "Jos Rogers, Jr. Made in U.S.A. Daisy Brand". Also, inscribed on backside of rawhide "forever if you're good". Mandolin is 25" long with a 11 1/2" diameter body. Original black hard case with purple felt lining included (no key available). Condition: well played - needs rawhide replaced, tail piece has some old spot soldered repair, wood frame and neck all intact and in excellent condition. Case in good condition, handle shows wear. (Note: Joseph Rogers, Jr was the premier manufacturer & dealer of skins for drum and banjo heads from the mid-19th century, succeeded by John Rogers & Bro in January, 1895. In November, 1895 James Rogers, Jr. announced the closing of his head making factory, due to ill health and poor profits. The Rogers name stamped on banjo heads frequently causes people to mistakenly identify the instrument as a Rogers, but the company provided only the heads.) Maker of this mandolin banjo is unknown, possibly SS Stewart.
