1852 This is a letter dated July 21, 1852 that is an agreement between the city of Los Angeles and Pablo Noriega de la Guerra, marshal of the district for the lease or sale of a parcel of the city known as Calle de Negroes (Street of the Negroes). At one time the area was home to many prominent families, but gradually turned into a slum in the 1860's, becoming LA's first Chinatown. This is a rare document and signed by the parties involved in the transaction, Miguel de la Guinna, L. Lancaster and Guerra, plus Ygnacio Del Valle, the "Alcalde" of Los Angeles in 1850. He was a former Mexican General who settled in southern California, and had a huge family ranch, known as "Rancho Camulos." He even served for a short time in the California State Assembly. It is in very good condition, considering its age and a must have for any Los Angeles collector. Lynn Langdon Collection - HKA#65624
