c1780 This 4.5" x 2.5" x 1" carved wooden case features simple wire hook hinges and a clasp, and contains a steel beam, two 34mm brass pans, and a complete set of weights--including fractionals-- that correspond with period coins. The interior of the lid bears the original label, printed "Recht abgezogen/ Waag und Gewicht/ macht/ der allergnaedigst privileg./ und examinirter Jchtmacher/ Joh. Pet. Poppenberg/ aus Westphalen/ 178". A small crowned eagle has been wood burned into the paper label and wooden lid of the box. A fine, complete scale used to weigh coins in the late 18th century. - HKA#64328
