Early French Long Fowler, 54'' octagonal-to-round smoothbore barrel with touch mark and engraving at breech; walnut stock has a nicely carved and elongated crescent cheekpiece; forend has a takedown feature in which two-thirds of the forward forend remains attached to the barrel when barrel is removed for service or cleaning. The bold raised brass mounts are nicely formed and engraved in the traditional French period style. Overall length is 70''. A partial piece of parchment paper, which appears as old as this Fowler, is attached to the right butt side with writing barely legible. This Fowler is ca. 1760. Condition is very good overall, retaining its original period finish and patina. Stock shows some period handling dings. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (Antique)
