Autograph Letter Signed, One page, Quarto, on “Trocadero Vaudevilles Headed by Sandow” letterhead stationery, dated “April 7, 1896.” It reads (in full): “Gents: Please send me list of printing on hand as I intend playing Sandow a few weeks after he closes at Proctor’s. Address – Proctor’s Pleasure Palace New York or better still Nederland Hotel. Yours, F. Ziegfeld, Jr.”Prussian pioneering bodybuilder, Eugen Sandow, was Ziegfeld’s first star. Ziegfeld found that the audience was more fascinated by Sandow’s bulging muscles than by the amount of weight he was lifting so Ziegfeld had him perform poses which he dubbed “muscle display performances,” in addition to performing feats of strength with barbells. Light wear at folds, toning at margins; otherwise, fine.
