Early Flintlock hunting sword with carved root burl wood grip circa mid 18th century, probably German with eligible signature within grip portion behind trigger. The piece measures 28” overall, the barrelmeasures approx 6” and is 48 cal smooth bore. The rear portion of the blade is reinforced and thicker to accept pistol mounting. The grip shows a stylized dog head that is well carved and the mounts and body are nicelyengraved matching to the pistol. The blade is also deeply engraved. The condition is good with light to moderate pitting and erosion. The wood is good with sharp carving and a very nice grain other than a smallloss behind hammer and crack. The action is not working and needs a cleaning. A far higher quality oddity than normally found. From an old New York collector’s estate. Est.; $2,500-$5,000.
