Produced circa 1862. These pistols are a primary derringer in any early pistol collection, as they were the first true large caliber breech loading derringers ever made. The breech end of the barrel and frame have a fine floral engraved, scroll design with a very fine punch dot background, with an engraved arrow on each side of the barrel with a small star burst at the muzzle. The top of the barrel is marked "MOORE'S PAT. F.A. CO. BROOKLYN N.Y." and "D. MOORES PAT FEB 24 1863" on the underside. It has the half-moon front sight blade, with the notched, hammer rear sight. The rear of the barrel is marked with the assembly number "56G".

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 95% of the original silver plating with some minor flaking with some loss at the muzzle. The frame retains 50% of the silver-plating with the exposed brass frame showing an attractive patina finish. The engraving is very distinct. Mechanically fine.
