Early Colt Model Dragoon, .44 percussion caliber revolver, dark brown patina finish, old period ivory grips, serial #1398. The last Whitneyville Hartford transition Dragoon was numbered 1337 and this is within the first hundred first-model Dragoons produced. The Dragoon shows short lug and reverse early address. No Colt’s patent on side of frame, large oval cylinder stops, thick triggerguard, small numbers. The Dragoon is a dark brown patina and shows carry and wear, some holster wear at muzzle. Old repairs to rammer and plunger and traces of silver on guard where protected. The pistol is fitted with old period extra-thick ivory grips which are nicely yellowed and aged and show some chips and losses and though not Colt, they are 19th century. The pins are exposed on the bottom side of the barrel and the pistol has seen wear and carry and hard use on the frontier. All matching visible numbers including cylinder. Action good, interior good. These early first-model Dragoons went to Texas and the frontier went to Texas Rangers as number 1337 was a presentation to Ben McCullough. Est: $7,000 - $14,000
