Early Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol, with complete leather rig, #135569, .45 ACP cal., 5'' barrel, blue finish, factory checkered walnut grips, with three late WWI magazines. Shipped to Rock Island Arsenal, Nov. 4, 1916, as carried during WWI by our consignor's grandfather Hoyt N. McClain (1872-1920). Also included is a complete brown leather officer's belt marked ''FH'', with heavy brass buckle marked on back ''RIA/1914/TCC'', one two-pocket leather magazine pouch with rimmed eagle snap marked ''Rock Island Arsenal 1914/TCC'', 1915 RIA leather holster slide with 1916 dated RIA holster. Leather and bronze sword hanger are also present. Condition to pistol is fine retaining approx. 90% original blue finish with most of the losses as light frosting and discoloration to patent dates from storage in holster, with similar wear just below the U.S. Property markings and forward edge of slide stop, and minor thinning to high edges. Grips remain crisp showing only the slightest use. Pre-WWI barrel with ''S'' marking to top of hood edge, and ''P'' to rear of lug as is correct for this serial number range. Left top grip screw shows minor frosting as well from storage in holster. Front strap with light thinning and very minor toning. Back of grip safety retains approx. 95% lightly thinning blue. Flat mainspring housing has thinned and toned somewhat. Leather shows very light wear and minor crazing at fold-over points. A nice all-original ensemble that has been kept together for over 90 years. Est.: $2,500-$4,000. (C&R)
