Early British LSA Co. Volunteer Pattern Lee Enfield Bolt Action Carbine, #131B, .303 British cal., 21" barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock set with handguard, blade front sight, and adjustable folding leaf rear sight with "V"-notched groove, graduated to 2000 yards. Safety is early thumb type. Magazine is rare "Fish Belly" type and is secured with a chain link. A steel dust cover is fitted to the bolt body and a magazine cut off is attached to right side of the receiver. Right side of the action body is marked "LEE-SPEED/PATENTS". The "LSA Co." markings have been defaced and are not readable. There is a "(Broad Arrow)" government property mark and crowned inspection stamp on the bolt handle. Barrel is stamped "FOR CORDITE ONLY" and "NITRO PROOVED". Bolt does not match. Birmingham export proof marks stamped on left side of the barrel. Condition overall is good with the metal showing wear, dark toning, and spots of patina to the barrel. Wood is good with handling marks and bruises to the dark finish. Action operates smoothly. Bore is bright with very good rifling. Carbine is featured in the lower left corner on page 94 of "The Lee Enfield", 2007 by Ian D. Skennerton, not mentioned by serial number, but can be verified by specific blemishes in the wood.Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (C&R)
